Defense of Marriage Act

This week, the Senate will debate and vote on the Defense of Marriage Act, a bill that would federally define marriage as only between a man and woman and would allow states to refuse to recognize same sex marriages performed in other states. The Congressional move to ban gay and lesbian marriage is a response to a case that is to be heard in Hawaii beginning this week.
