“I’ve used Democracy Now! as a powerful example of confirming corporate media bias in my University classes. I’ve found that what students find most striking is a comparison between the headlines carried by DN! and that of the main stream media, followed by a discussion of which stories are more essential to informing a democratic citizenry. Inevitably, DN! usually wins hands down. I’ve also found that DN! can be a useful tool in illustrating the reliance on “experts” (usually white, male business and/or government officials) by the main stream media and that there is no dearth of alternative sources and voices out there, as DN! shows. Which begs the question, why do these other voices never appear in the main stream media? Indeed, my use of DN! always stimulates vigorous debate and forces students to question the accuracy and interests of corporate-controlled media. It is invaluable!”
