Within the last week, the vinyl panels containing words and images about Till’s life and death have been peeled off the historical site, which is part of the Mississippi Freedom Trail. In 1955, Till’s mother, Mamie Till Mobley, held an open-casket funeral for her son in Chicago, and the published images of his brutalized body galvanized the civil rights movement.
