ALFREDO ACEDO: [translated] Yesterday we organized a march from this location to a place called Kilometer Zero, where seven years ago a compañero of ours, a small farmer from South Korea, offered his life there in a struggle against the World Trade Organization. The WTO and the transnational corporations, and the governments of the rich countries, are the same structural body that is causing the crisis in the underdeveloped countries, as well as the environmental crisis. They are the same entities. It’s the same struggle, the same consequence.

Tomorrow, we’ll march again to the central part of this city, leaving from the same camp, but with a larger contingent than accompanied us yesterday. We’ll demonstrate. La Via Campesina has made a call for these kinds of mobilizations to take place tomorrow around Mexico and in different parts of the world. Therefore, this mobilization that we call Thousands from Cancún will have a global impact. It’s not just about being here in an action that’s parallel to COP16, but organizations and citizens, wherever they find themselves, will be demonstrating in the same spirit with which we are protesting here.
