“Para nosotros se trata de algo más que una nueva cumbre”, declaró el presidente Nasheed. “Es un asunto de vida o muerte”. El ochenta por ciento de las Maldivas está sólo un metro por encima del nivel del mar, o menos. El aumento previsto del nivel del mar a causa del calentamiento global podría borrar del mapa al país entero. Las islas de Tuvalu y las Islas Salomón se enfrentan a una crisis parecida.
