Casi cinco años después del huracán Katrina, fiscales federales acusaron a un hombre blanco de cometer un crimen de odio de ámbito federal por su participación en el tiroteo racista de tres hombres negros en las fechas posteriores a la tormenta. Entre los cinco cargos se acusa a Roland Bourgeois de conspirar para defender a su barrio de Algiers Point en Nueva Orleans contra los “forasteros”, incluidos africano-estadounidenses, y de disparar y herir gravemente a tres hombres que se dirigían a un centro provisional de evacuación.
