La ciudad neozelandesa de Christchurch fue azotada nuevamente por un gran terremoto. Cincuenta edificios quedaron destruidos, pero inicialmente no se reportaron muertes. En febrero, 181 personas murieron en otro terremoto que azotó la ciudad.
