17 de mayo de 2013 — El ex Presidente de Guatemala Efraín Ríos Montt fue condenado a prisión el viernes pasado. Fue un acontecimiento muy importante, ya que es la primera vez en la historia que el ex Presidente de un país es juzgado por genocidio en un tribunal de su propio país. El juicio fue el resultado de la iniciativa y el esfuerzo de tres valientes mujeres guatemaltecas: una jueza, una fiscal general y una ganadora del Premio Nobel de la Paz.
13–17 de mayo de 2013 El martes, inmigrantes indocumentados fueron arrestados en Illinois luego de protestar frente a una cárcel de inmigrantes. Los organizadores sostienen que la concentración frente a las instalaciones del centro de detención de Broadview se realizó para exigir el fin inmediato de las deportaciones, que han llegado a un número sin precedentes con el Presidente Obama.
10 de mayo de 2013 Efraín Ríos Montt, el ex dictador de Guatemala respaldado por Estados Unidos, fue encontrado culpable de los delitos de genocidio y falta de deberes contra la humanidad. Fue condenado a 80 años de carcel. Es el primer jefe de estado en el continente americano enjuiciado por delitos de este índole.
