Trump Mocks Media Coverage of Coronavirus Crisis

HeadlineOct 28, 2020

A record 71 million early votes have already been cast in the presidential election, surpassing the 2016 early vote count. In Texas, 46% of all registered voters have already cast their ballots. On Tuesday, Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden campaigned in Georgia — a state not won by a Democrat since Bill Clinton in 1992.

Trump campaigned in Nebraska, Wisconsin and Michigan, where a judge just ruled voters can openly carry firearms at polling places. Trump attacked Michigan Democratic Governor Gretchen Whitmer and downplayed a recent right-wing plot to kidnap her. Trump supporters repeatedly chanted “lock her up.” He also criticized the media’s reporting on the pandemic.

President Donald Trump: “And, you know, now, with them, you can’t watch anything else. You turn it on. COVID, COVID, COVID, COVID, COVID, COVID, COVID, COVID, COVID, COVID. Well, we have a spike in cases. You ever notice they don’t use the word 'death'? They use the word 'cases.' Cases. Like, Barron Trump is a case. He has sniffles. He was sniffling. One Kleenex, that’s all he needed.”

Former President Barack Obama campaigned for Joe Biden in Florida and ridiculed Trump’s comments.

Barack Obama: “More than 225,000 people in this country are dead. More than 100,000 small businesses have closed. Half a million jobs are gone in Florida alone. Think about that. And, well, what’s his closing argument? That people are too focused on COVID. He said this at one of his rallies. 'COVID, COVID, COVID,' he’s complaining. He’s jealous of COVID’s media coverage.”
