Hi there,

This year commemorates Democracy Now!’s 30th year of independent broadcasting. While there is so much uncertainty about the future of the planet right now, we will keep highlighting the activists, researchers, scholars, scientists, artists and ordinary people working for a more peaceful and just world. Thanks to a group of generous donors, all donations made today will be TRIPLED, which means your $15 gift is worth $45. Please donate today, so we can keep shining a spotlight on the grassroots movements fighting for democracy and challenging abuses of power around the world. Every dollar makes a difference. Thank you so much!

Nat’l Guard Called In to Kenosha Ahead of Rittenhouse Verdict as Closing Arguments Get Underway

HeadlineNov 15, 2021

In Kenosha, Wisconsin, lawyers are delivering closing arguments today in the trial of Kyle Rittenhouse, the white teenage gunman who fatally shot two people and wounded a third during racial justice protests in 2020. Last week, Judge Bruce Schroeder garnered yet more scrutiny after he called on the courtroom to applaud the service of a military member on Veterans Day; that military member was also a witness in the case, leading to concerns of possible jury bias. Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers has called 500 National Guard troops to be on standby ahead of a possible verdict.
