In Gaza, Palestinians in Khan Younis held a vigil at Nasser Hospital for journalists killed by an Israeli strike a year ago. On August 25, 2025, Israel struck Nasser Hospital, killing at least 20 people, including five journalists, who worked for Reuters, the Associated Press, Al Jazeera and other news outlets. Reuters’s editor-in-chief Alessandra Galloni and the AP’s executive editor Julie Pace issued a joint statement Tuesday, saying, “We again call on the government of Israel to explain the deaths of these journalists and take every step necessary to protect journalists covering the conflict. We will continue to seek answers, demand accountability and call for access to Gaza to provide support to our colleagues who have been covering the war for almost three years now.”

These were the five journalists killed by Israel a year ago: Reuters journalist Hussam al-Masri, who was killed while operating a live video feed at the hospital; Mariam Abu Dagga, who freelanced for the Associated Press and other outlets; Mohammed Salama, who worked for Al Jazeera; Moaz Abu Taha, a freelance journalist who worked with several news organizations; and Ahmed Abu Aziz.
This is the brother of Reuters journalist Hussam al-Masri.

They were living their lives, but the occupation targeted them for no other reason than they were a voice for the truth, and they were the very symbol of this truth.”
