The number of confirmed Ebola cases in the Democratic Republic of Congo has topped 7,000, according to government data published on Friday. There have also been more than 3,300 reported Ebola deaths as the virus has spread to remote eastern and northern regions already devastated by armed conflict. The World Health Organization warns the outbreak could be on track to exceed the deadliest on record, when a regional outbreak in West Africa that began in 2014 killed 11,000 people.
