The U.N. is sounding the alarm about possible war crimes committed by Israel, as hundreds of bodies have been recovered from the rubble of buildings destroyed by Israeli strikes in Gaza. According to the U.N., the remains of entire families, many of them children, are being unearthed from sites. This is the head of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights in Palestine.

Ajith Sunghay: “It is estimated that at least 8,000 bodies remain buried under the rubble across the Gaza Strip. Palestinian Civil Defense teams have recovered over 800 bodies since the announcement of a ceasefire in October 2025, despite severe shortages of equipment, fuel and personnel. At this pace, completing the recovery of the remaining bodies will take at least 10 more years, even longer when accounting for the time needed to identify bodies, if ever possible.”
