Coronavirus Cases Surge in India, Peru, Spain, France and Elsewhere

India reported more than 60,000 new coronavirus cases for the third consecutive day. At the largest jail in Indian-administered Kashmir, one in five prisoners has tested positive.

The United Kingdom has imposed new travel restrictions on visitors from Spain and France after a surge of new coronavirus cases in Western Europe.

In Peru, officials have imposed new social distancing restrictions as confirmed coronavirus cases topped a half-million. Infections have spiked in Peru since the government lifted a lockdown on July 1.

Meanwhile, Mexico and Argentina have agreed to mass produce hundreds of millions of doses of an AstraZeneca vaccine developed by Oxford University, in case the vaccine proves safe and effective against the coronavirus. It’s currently in phase 3 of clinical trials.
