A sweeping new study finds air pollution affects every stage of human life, from fetal development to old-age dementia. The Environmental Research Group at Imperial College London reviewed tens of thousands of studies looking at different impacts of air pollution, including delays in fetal growth, diminished lung volume in children, reduced cognitive abilities of adolescents, and continuing adverse mental health affects throughout life. This comes as the American Lung Association reports over one-third of U.S. residents regularly breathe unhealthy air, with communities of color disproportionately affected.
