Right-Wing Parties Win Majority of Seats on Commission to Rewrite Chile’s Constitution

In Chile, right-wing parties have won a majority of seats on a 50-member commission tasked with rewriting the nation’s Pinochet-era constitution. Sunday’s vote was another defeat for President Gabriel Boric, after voters last September rejected a proposed progressive constitution that would have expanded rights for Indigenous peoples and abortion seekers, guaranteed universal healthcare and addressed the climate crisis.
