Sweden also confirmed it identified a case of the more contagious and deadlier variant, known as clade 1. Meanwhile, Congolese authorities recently reported over 1,000 new mpox cases in a week as they appeal to the international community for the urgent delivery of vaccines. The World Health Organization earlier this month declared mpox a global public health emergency.
