Following the Israeli commando attack on the Gaza-bound Freedom Flotilla and the death of nine Turkish citizens, popular outrage has swept the streets of Turkey. The Turkish government has demanded accountability and an apology from Israel for its deadly assault on the Mavi Marmara. Israel has refused to apologize and has also refused to accept an international probe in to the incident.

What does this mean for the future of the close military relationship between Turkey and Israel? Who is behind is the IHH, the Turkish charity that helped coordinate the flotilla and that Israel accuses of links to terrorism?

Democracy Now!’s Anjali Kamat posed these questions to Turkish political analyst Koray Çal??kan who teaches Middle East Politics and International Relations at Bogazici University in Istanbul, Turkey.
