  • Anthony Lake Withdraws Candidacy for CIA Director

    In a stunning development yesterday afternoon, President Clinton’s nominee to lead Central Intelligence withdrew his candidacy. Anthony Lake, who had already gone through three days of confirmation hearings before the Senate Intelligence Committee, reportedly told President Clinton that he was sick of being "a dancing bear in a political circus."

  • Yale Law School Protest of South African Presidential Fellowship

    The Yale Law School last year decided to honor former South African President F.W. De Klerk with one of the school’s most prestigious fellowships — The Fowler Harper Memorial Fund. The fellowship is given to those who — in the opinion of the school’s faculty — have made a "distinguished contribution" to public life and the recipients are then feted at the school for three days in April.

  • Nelson Mandela Film Premiers

    A new film about South African President Nelson Mandela will open across the country later this month. Mandela the film chronicles the life of the former political prisoner turned president. Directed by South African filmmakers Joe Menell and Angus Gibson, the film is the only official biography of Nelson Mandela. And as a result, the filmmakers had unprecedented access to Mandela and to a 100 hours of extraordinary archival footage.
