  • Millions for Mumia

    This week, people around the world are organizing protests in support of journalist, activist and death row inmate Mumia Abu-Jamal. In Philadelphia this Saturday, masses will converge for the Millions for Mumia protest. Tomorrow, a work stoppage is being planned by the 150,000-member teachers union in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in solidarity with Mumia. Meanwhile, on Saturday, longshore workers at all ports on the U.S. West Coast of the United States will conduct an 8-hour work stoppage in support of Mumia’s freedom.

  • Earth Day

    Today is Earth Day, and President Clinton has scheduled a press conference to announce new air quality standards. But while Clinton is getting some praise from environmental organizations for this new move, he and Vice President Al Gore are in the hot seat for their environmental record on other issues such as global warming, the conservation of forests and their continued support for loosening up environmental controls on corporations.

  • Hypocrisy On Kosovo

    On the eve of the NATO summit celebrating the Western alliance’s 50th anniversary, Britain and France have asked their allies to consider the use of ground forces in Yugoslavia. Washington has signaled some flexibility, and has agreed to review the option.
