Jeff “Free” Luers spent nine-and-a-half years in prison for setting three SUVs on fire at a car dealership in Eugene, Oregon. No one was hurt in the fire. Luers has said he committed the act to raise awareness about global warming. Luers was originally sentenced to twenty-three years, a longer sentence than some convicted murders. The sentence was overturned and reduced in 2008.
