Book Launch—La Lucha: The Story of Lucha Castro and Human Rights in Mexico

New York, NY

May 29, 2015 | Friday | 6:00 pm

Pomegranate Gallery

137 Greene St.,
New York, NY 10012 ( see map )
Amy Goodman will speak at the New York launch of a book by Jon Sack, La Lucha: The Story of Lucha Castro and Human Rights in Mexico, a nonfiction graphic novel about the lives of human rights defenders in Mexico.

Illustrated in beautiful and chilling comic book art, La Lucha renders in rich detail the stories of families ripped apart by disappearances and murders—especially gender-based violence—and the remarkably brave advocacy, protests, and investigations of ordinary citizens who turned their grief into resistance.

The event will feature Lucha Castro, director of Centros de Derechos Humanos de las Mujeres (Center for Women’s Rights) in Chihuahua, as well as special guests Amy Goodman (host, Democracy Now!) and Charlotte Bunch (director, Center for Women’s Global Leadership).

Autographed copies of the book will be available with a donation of $20 to help support human rights defenders at risk.

Please email campaigns@frontlinedefenders.org to register. Space is limited.

Free, but pre-registration RSVP with an email is requested, to campaigns@frontlinedefenders.org
