On July 26, 1969, the Young Lords Organization formed in New York City. The Young Lords were community organizers and servants of the people; rebels and revolutionaries; socialists and internationalists. They believed in the power of the people to defeat capitalism and to free Puerto Rico from colonialism. Fifty years later, they mark the founding of the Young Lords in New York by highlighting the organization’s legacy as well as the social justice movements today.
