Monitors Accuse Sri Lankan Forces of Aid Worker Massacre

HeadlineAug 31, 2006

In Sri Lanka, international truce monitors are accusing government forces of being behind this month’s massacre of seventeen local aid workers. The workers were all employees of the French group Action Against Hunger.

  • International monitor Major General Ulf Henriksson: “That is one of the reasons we have ruled this against the government. There are strong indications that it was done by a group or individuals linked to the security forces. And when it happened it is very clear in the government statement that they controlled Mutur, even if they deny today.”

The Sri Lankan government angrily rejects the charges and says it’s carrying out its own investigation.
