In Spain, Socialist Party leader Pedro Sánchez was sworn in as Spanish prime minister Wednesday, one day after his proposal to form a coalition government narrowly won a vote in the Spanish Parliament Tuesday. Sánchez agreed to form a coalition government with Pablo Iglesias, the head of the leftist Podemos party, paving the way for Spain’s first progressive coalition government since the 1930s. And in a correction to our headline yesterday, the formation of this coalition government was made possible when a group of pro-independence legislators from Catalonia agreed to abstain from Tuesday’s vote, not join the coalition government.
