Turkey: 29 Buildings Collapse in New Earthquake as Overall Death Toll Tops 50,000

HeadlineFeb 28, 2023

In Turkey, at least one person died Monday when another earthquake shook the country’s southeast region. Twenty-nine buildings collapsed in the tremor, which came three weeks after a devastating pair of quakes killed over 50,000 in Turkey and Syria. Over the weekend, the head of the World Food Programme David Beasley described the situation in southern Turkey as “apocalyptic.” He said, “The scale of devastation here is truly incomprehensible.”
