She will be joined by Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison and representatives from three mosques or Muslim communities that have suffered Islamophobic attacks:
- Imam Gamal Fouda, Masjid Al Noor, Christchurch, NZ. A lone gunman carried out two mass shootings at the Al Noor Mosque and at the Linwood Islamic Centre, in Christchurch, New Zealand, during Friday Prayer on March 15th, 2019. The attacker killed 51 people and injured 40.
- Nusaiba Al-Azem, second vice-chair of the London Muslim Mosque, London, Ontario. On June 6th, 2021, a 20-year-old white man drive a pickup truck into a Muslim family not far from the mosque, killing four members of the Afzaal family and seriously injuring a fifth, nine-year-old Fayez.
- Imam Mohamed Omar, executive director of Dar al Farooq, a mosque and community center in Bloomington, MN. On August 5, 2017, at about 5:00 a.m. local time, an improvised explosive device detonated near the mosque, damaging an imam’s office and sending smoke throughout the building. No one was hurt in the explosion.
