Hi there,

The job of a journalist is to go to where the silence is — especially when those in power seek to silence voices that question or challenge power. That is what we do at Democracy Now! day in and day out, and we're able to do it because of financial support from people like you — people who trust and depend on our independent reporting. If you believe that freedom of speech and freedom of the press are essential to the functioning of a democratic society, please donate today. Every dollar makes a difference. Thank you so much.

Relief Agencies Report Indonesia Aid Improvement

HeadlineJun 01, 2006

In Indonesia, relief agencies are reporting an improvement in aid distribution to survivors of Saturday’s massive earthquake. This is Paul Dillon of the International Organization for Migration.

  • Paul Dillon: “The situation in Java has improved dramatically over the last 72 hours or so. Food is on the ground and the machinery if delivering all these aid material is kicking into gear… We’re moving dozens of tonnes every couple of hours of aid materials, food, shelter material is very desperately needed, family size tents and this type of thing so that we can get people out of the current situation.”
