Hi there,

The job of a journalist is to go to where the silence is — especially when those in power seek to silence voices that question or challenge power. That is what we do at Democracy Now! day in and day out, and we're able to do it because of financial support from people like you — people who trust and depend on our independent reporting. If you believe that freedom of speech and freedom of the press are essential to the functioning of a democratic society, please donate today. Every dollar makes a difference. Thank you so much.

9/11 Suspects Seek Preservation of CIA Prisons

HeadlineJan 28, 2013

Attorneys for five Guantánamo Bay detainees accused in the 9/11 attacks have asked a military judge to order the preservation of the overseas CIA prisons where they were tortured. Lawyers for alleged 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and four others accused of training the hijackers of the three planes are also asking for the judge to order the disclosure of documents authorizing their detention at secret prisons without trial. A pretrial hearing in the case continues this week.
