Back in the United States, California’s farmworkers have contracted COVID-19 at nearly three times the rate of other state residents. That’s according to a new study by University of California, Berkeley researchers — the first report to explore how farmworkers are disproportionately affected by the pandemic. The report also found farmworkers who only spoke an Indigenous language had higher positivity rates than farmworkers who spoke Spanish or English.
