Sen. Dianne Feinstein Announces She Will Not Run for Reelection in 2024

HeadlineFeb 15, 2023

California Democratic Senator Dianne Feinstein announced she will not seek reelection in 2024. The move was widely expected by the 89-year-old Feinstein, who was first elected as U.S. senator in 1992 and is the oldest sitting member of Congress. She is also the longest-serving woman senator and the first woman to chair the Senate Judiciary Committee. She was also the first woman mayor of San Francisco.

Two California congressmembers, Katie Porter and Adam Schiff, already announced they would run for the open seat, with Nancy Pelosi throwing her support behind Schiff. Congressmember Barbara Lee has reportedly shared with colleagues she will also launch a bid for the seat.
