Hi there,

In this chaotic news cycle it may be tempting to tune out, but we hope you won’t—only an informed and engaged public can defend democracy. In these times of deep political polarization we need news that goes beyond play-by-play headlines, news that goes to the heart of each story by asking people to tell their own stories of abuses of power and injustice in their own words. If our journalism is important to you, please donate today. Every dollar makes a difference. Thank you so much.

Trump Unable to Secure $454M Bond in NY Civil Case; Peter Navarro to Begin Sentence for Contempt

HeadlineMar 19, 2024

Back in the U.S., Donald Trump has failed to secure the $454 million bond for his New York civil fraud case, increasing the likelihood New York Attorney General Letitia James will seize his real estate assets. Trump’s lawyers said their client was turned down by around 30 bond underwriting companies. The lawyers are requesting the former president be allowed to delay posting bond while he appeals the case. If their request is denied, James could start seizing Trump’s properties next Monday.

In other Trump news, former White House aide Peter Navarro is expected to turn himself in to a federal prison in Miami today to serve his four-month sentence for contempt of Congress. Navarro will become the first-ever ex-White House official to serve time for a contempt of Congress conviction after he refused to comply with a subpoena from the House select committee investigating the January 6 Capitol insurrection.
