Hi there,

There has never been a more urgent time for courageous, daily, independent news. Democracy Now!’s independent reporting is more important than ever, when only a galvanized, engaged public, supported by resilient, pro-democracy grassroots movements, can prevent authoritarianism from triumphing. Our TRIPLE MATCH has been EXTENDED through MIDNIGHT EST tonight. That means your $15 gift TODAY will be worth $45. With your contribution, we can continue to go to where the silence is, to bring you the voices of the silenced majority – those calling for peace in a time of war, demanding action on the climate catastrophe and advocating for racial and economic justice. Every dollar makes a difference. Thank you so much!

Gaza Death Toll Tops 39,100 as Israeli Lawmakers Label U.N. Relief Agency a “Terror Organization”

HeadlineJul 24, 2024

The Palestinian Health Ministry says the death toll from Israel’s war on the Gaza Strip has passed 39,100, after one of the bloodiest ground assaults of Israel’s nine-month-old military campaign. Gaza officials say at least 121 people, most of them women and children, have been killed since Israel launched its latest offensive in Khan Younis, where an estimated 150,000 people were forced to flee within a single day.

This week, Israel’s Knesset advanced a trio of bills that would ban the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees — known as UNRWA — and declare it a “terrorist organization.” Israel’s assault on Gaza has killed at least 195 United Nations staff members. Drop Site News reports at least 172 family members of UN staffers have also been killed.

Meanwhile, in the occupied West Bank, Israeli forces killed four Palestinians in less than 12 hours, including a 16-year-old who was shot dead in the Qalandiya refugee camp.
