Iran to Pick New Supreme Leader Following Assassination of Khamenei

HeadlineMar 04, 2026

Iranian officials are expected to soon pick a new supreme leader to replace Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was assassinated on Saturday at the start of the U.S.-Israeli attack. Israel has already announced Khamenei’s successor will become an “unequivocal target for elimination.” Israel has already bombed the Assembly of Experts building in Qom, where the decision was expected to be made.

On Tuesday, President Trump said U.S. and Israeli strikes have already killed off many possible future leaders in Iran.

President Donald Trump: “Well, most of the people we had in mind are dead. So, you know, we had some in mind from that group that is — is dead. And now we have another group. They may be dead also, based on reports. So I guess you have a third wave coming in. Pretty soon we’re not going to know anybody.”
