Federal Immigration Agents Arrest 50,000 People in August

HeadlineSep 02, 2026

Federal immigration agents arrested roughly 50,000 people in August, matching July’s record-setting pace. That’s according to a senior Department of Homeland Security official who spoke with NBC News. In Washington state, family members are calling on ICE to release 76-year-old Loreto Javar. He’s been held in ICE detention since June, even though he’s a documented permanent resident and is battling stage 4 prostate cancer. Javar emigrated from the Philippines in 1995 and has lived in the U.S. with his wife and daughter ever since. He has no criminal record and was detained during his U.S. citizenship interview.
