Israel agrees to release some Palestinian prisoners

Israel has agreed to release about 350 of the 5,000 Palestinians currently in jail, many of whom have never been charged with a crime. The Israeli newspaper Ha’aretz reports that Hamas and Islamic Jihad threatened yesterday to revoke the cease-fire because so many Palestinians remain in prison.

Protesters Force Hong Kong Officials To Delay Security Bill

  • And this new from Hong Kong. In what the Washington Post calls a “stunning victory for this city’s pro-democracy movement”, the city has backed down in passing a controversial security bill that would have threatened civil liberties. The bill’s passage seemed imminent until last Tuesday when 500,000 people took to the streets protesting its passage.
