US Suspends Military Aid to Thailand

HeadlineSep 29, 2006

The Bush administration says it’s suspending military aid to Thailand in the aftermath of last week’s coup. The new regime has banned political parties from staging rallies or conducting any other activity and imposed new curbs on the media.

  • State Department spokesperson Sean McCormack: “The United States continues to urge a rapid return to democratic rule and early elections in Thailand. We look forward to being able to reinstate these suspended programs after a democratically elected government takes office.”
