Hi there,

Today is the first of two Public Media Giving Days, a time to celebrate what public and independent media gives to you by giving back. If you think Democracy Now!’s reporting is a critical line of defense against war, climate catastrophe and authoritarianism, please make your donation of $10 or more right now. In honor of Public Media Giving Days, a generous donor will TRIPLE your donation, which means it’ll go 3x as far to support our independent journalism. Democracy Now! is funded by you, and that’s why we’re counting on your donation to keep us going strong. Please give today. Every dollar makes a difference—in fact, gets tripled! Thank you so much.

Peace Activists Convicted for Anti-Nuke Plowshares Action

HeadlineDec 14, 2010

Five peace activists have been found guilty for an anti-nuclear Plowshares action at a naval base in Washington state in November 2009. The activists cut a hole in a fence to access the Kitsap-Bangor Naval Base. As they walked onto the grounds of the base, they left a trail of blood and hammered on the roadway. They also hammered on the fences and scattered sunflower seeds throughout the base. The base is used to service Trident nuclear missiles carried by U.S. submarines. Two of the defendants, a nun and a priest, are over 80 years old. Sentencing will be held in March.
