Alabama Man to Be Freed After 36 Years in Prison for Stealing $50 from a Bakery

In Alabama, an African-American man who spent 36 years in prison for stealing $50 from a bakery will soon be released. In 1983, Alvin Kennard was sentenced to life without parole under Alabama’s old three-strikes law, but a judge on Wednesday resentenced him to time served.
