Colombia’s human rights ombudsman says that more than half the country is at risk of violence related to the upcoming local elections. The warning comes after the death of mayoral candidate Karina García, who was brutally murdered along with at least four others while campaigning earlier this month in the Cauca region. Meanwhile, two more indigenous activists have been killed in recent days: Glabely Gómez and Aída Trochez. Both victims advocated for indigenous women’s rights in the Cauca region.
