White House Superspreader Event May Have Exposed Thousands to Coronavirus

HeadlineOct 09, 2020

In New Jersey, former Repubilcan Governor Chris Christie remains hospitalized with COVID-19 for the seventh day in a row. Christie’s Twitter account went silent Saturday, and there’s been little word on his condition, though WNYC reported Thursday Christie is not on a mechanical ventilator and has been in telephone contact with friends.

Christie was present at the White House during a likely superspreader event September 26 — a packed celebration for Supreme Court nominee Amy Coney Barrett headlined by President Trump, where few people wore masks and no one practiced social distancing.

After the White House refused an offer by the CDC to help with contact tracing, reporters at USA Today attempted to identify and track more than 200 people at the Rose Garden event. The paper’s investigation found attendees left Washington and joined large gatherings around the country that potentially exposed hundreds — or even thousands — of others to the coronavirus.
