Trump Holds Packed Rally as U.S. Coronavirus Deaths Near 200,000

HeadlineSep 14, 2020

As the U.S. COVID-19 death toll approaches 200,000, with over 6.5 million confirmed cases, President Trump held a campaign rally in Henderson, Nevada, Sunday. It was Trump’s first indoor event since his June rally in Tulsa, which was linked to a surge in coronavirus infections. The rally was attended by thousands, violating Nevada’s restriction on gatherings of 50 or more people.

Politico is reporting communications aides at the Department of Health and Human Services have been demanding to review and alter weekly reports from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention about the coronavirus. The aides reportedly complained negative news coverage would undermine Trump’s optimistic messaging about the pandemic.
