Hi there,

Can you donate $10 per month to support Democracy Now!’s independent journalism all year long? Since our very first broadcast in 1996, we’ve refused to take government or corporate funding, because nothing is more important to us than our editorial independence. When Democracy Now! covers war and peace or the climate crisis, we’re not brought to you by the weapons manufacturers or the oil, gas, coal or nuclear companies. When we cover healthcare, we’re not brought to you by the insurance industry or Big Pharma. Our journalism is powered by YOU. But that means we can’t do our work without you.Right now, a generous donor will DOUBLE your gift, which means your $10 donation this month will be worth $20 to Democracy Now! Please do your part today. Every dollar counts. Thank you so much.

Boeing Will Pay $200 Million to Settle SEC Probe into 737 MAX Crashes

HeadlineSep 23, 2022

Boeing has agreed to pay $200 million to settle charges that it misled investors over the safety of its 737 MAX jet, which was involved in two deadly crashes in Indonesia and Ethiopia that killed all 346 on board both flights. As part of the settlement with the Securities and Exchange Commission, Boeing and its former chief executive, Dennis Muilenburg, will admit no wrongdoing over the fatal crashes in 2018 and 2019. Michael Stumo, the father of Ethiopian Airlines crash victim Samya Rose Stumo, said in a statement, “This settlement is protection for Boeing rather than justice. It is a continuation of Boeing evading accountability and transparency.” Click here to see our interview with Michael Stumo.
