Hi there,

This month, Democracy Now! marks 29 years of fearless independent journalism. Presidents have come, gone and come back again, but Democracy Now! remains, playing the same critical role in our democracy: shining a spotlight on corporate and government abuses of power and raising up the voices of scholars, advocates, scientists, activists, artists and ordinary people working for a more peaceful and just world. If our journalism is important to you, please donate today in honor of our 29th anniversary. Every dollar makes a difference. Thank you so much.

Police Attack Indian Farmers Marching Toward New Delhi for Fair Crop Prices

HeadlineFeb 13, 2024

In India, police fired tear gas at thousands of farmers marching toward New Delhi protesting for better working protections and to be paid a higher value for their crops. Police sealed several entry points into New Delhi with barricades of barbed wire, cement blocks and spikes. Some of the protesters were arrested. This is a leader with the Punjab farmers’ union.

Sarvan Singh Pandher: “See how peacefully the farmers are marching, yet the police are dropping tear gas shells from drones hovering in the sky!”
