And four demonstrators were shot dead by Indian security forces yesterday for breaking the curfew imposed on the Indian-controlled city of Srinagar in northern Kashmir. 150 people were also injured when the police used batons and bullets to disperse the crowds. Separatist groups are currently striking in an effort to end Indian rule and have closed down banks and schools during the tourist season.
