Hi there,

This year commemorates Democracy Now!’s 30th year of independent broadcasting. While there is so much uncertainty about the future of the planet right now, we will keep highlighting the activists, researchers, scholars, scientists, artists and ordinary people working for a more peaceful and just world. Please donate today, so we can keep shining a spotlight on the grassroots movements fighting for democracy and challenging abuses of power around the world. Every dollar makes a difference. Thank you so much!

Lawmakers Launch Bipartisan Effort to Block $110 Billion Saudi Arms Deal

HeadlineMay 26, 2017

On Capitol Hill, bipartisan resolutions have been introduced in the Senate and House to block President Trump’s $110 billion Saudi arms deal. The Senate bill was introduced by Republican Rand Paul and Democrats Chris Murphy and Al Franken. In a statement, Senator Paul said, “Given Saudi Arabia’s past support of terror, poor human rights record, and questionable tactics in its war in Yemen, Congress must carefully consider and thoroughly debate if selling them billions of dollars of arms is in our best national security interest at this time.”
