Acting U.S. Naval Secretary Fired over Handling of Outbreak Aboard Aircraft Carrier

HeadlineApr 08, 2020

Acting Navy Secretary Thomas Modly has resigned over his handling of a coronavirus outbreak on the Theodore Roosevelt aircraft carrier. Last week the ship’s captain, Brett Crozier, wrote a memo pleading for help for his sick crew. Secretary Modly responded by firing Crozier and then mocking the captain, saying he was “too naive or too stupid” to command an aircraft carrier. The carrier was docked on Guam. Modly went to Guam to address the thousands of sailors on board.
