EU Coronavirus Stimulus Talks Fail as Deaths Surge in Spain and France

HeadlineApr 08, 2020

European Union finance ministers met for 16 hours Tuesday but failed to reach agreement on what would have been a half-trillion-euro stimulus package to combat the economic freefall caused by the coronavirus.

In France, the death toll from the pandemic has topped 10,000.

In Spain, the number of reported deaths has risen for a second day, bringing the nation’s death toll to nearly 15,000.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday, Britain announced a new record of 854 people had died from the outbreak over the previous 24 hours. New studies show Britain will likely become the hardest-hit nation in Europe by the outbreak. This comes as British Prime Minister Boris Johnson spent a second night in intensive care from COVID complications.
