Trump’s Coronavirus Testing Czar Is Standing Down as U.S. Death Toll Tops 107,000

The death toll from COVID-19 in the United States now stands at over 107,000, with 1.85 million confirmed cases — though public health officials say both those figures are significant undercounts. In a majority of states, seven-day averages of new coronavirus cases are either holding steady or rising. Meanwhile, the Trump administration’s top official leading federal coronavirus testing efforts, Admiral Brett Giroir, said this week he will be “demobilized” from his role in mid-June.
