HeadlineJan 26, 2021

The American Library Association has awarded a Caldecott Medal to the children’s picture book “We Are Water Protectors” — marking the first time in history Indigenous people are recognized with the award. The book was illustrated by Tlingit artist Michaela Goade and written by Carole Lindstrom of the Turtle Mountain Band of Ojibwe. The book tells the story of a young woman resisting the construction of the Dakota Access pipeline.
